The Spca, and vet, think highly of keeping cats indoors at all times. Lots of good reasons certainly. Avoids accidents, predators, diseases from other cats, insect bites, poisonous plants. Can’t argue with that.
When I leave the inside door open (with the screen door latched) I find Miss M hanging around there. Today I thought I heard her pawing at the cat door (which is also latched).

“If only she knew…”
Cruel me not to let her out. But what if the neighbour’s dog barked and she startled and ran off or up a tree? What if she wandered away and forgot how to get back?
Since I cannot pick her up (she wriggles free whenever I try), I cannot even put her in a carrier to take her out to introduce her to the yard. I fantasize having a big enclosure in the yard for both of us to lounge in. She could safely stay out while I am working in the yard or garden too.
Every day she is a little more comfortable with me. But whenever I attempt to even gently move her, she leaps away. Not like she hurts from my touch, but from a habit of skittishness.
So I should stop looking at ads for outdoor cat houses. Maybe next year…
One of these days I need to light the wood stove and see how she likes that. Some rainy day. Maybe tonight. Stormy weather predicted. Possible power outages. Among other things to consider today are harvesting Concord grapes to make juice.
