The night before the visit, I put one tab of ground up gabapentin (a calmer downer) into Miss Moppet’s supper, the next day put two tabs into her breakfast. I enticed her into the sewing where I had put a basket and soft blanket with under the table. She was lying there and I was sitting close by when I heard the knock on the table.
She did not object when I got up and closed the door on her so I could let the vet and assistant in. Nor did she did not try to escape when we all trooped into the sewing room.
In fact as the team was getting organized with equipment, Miss Moppet came out from under the table to investigate. I stood against the wall at a distance chatting so she would know I was close by. Miss Moppet surprised us all by submitting to all sorts of touching and measuring, purring all the while and giving friendly head butts to her examiners.
She got a rabies shot, and another shot to bring her immunizations up to date. I was shown how to apply the flea medicine, and advised to repeat it monthly. Miss M had her claws trimmed too. She caused no fuss and exhibited no fear or distrust during any of these procedures.
The vet team left me with more gabapentin in case of any emergencies or situations that might stress her out (like having visitors). I am tapering off her predisone and we will see if her bald spot returns. She is much calmer now, though she does still scratch a bit, and still seems to perform a lot of grooming.
I am to give her all the wet food she wants, but confine the dry food to no more than 1/2 cup total per day. Miss M has put on some weight since she came home with me and is a little over the recommended amount for her size.

Since the visit I have been complying with the diet instructions, and Miss M and I have been advancing along in getting to know each other. She especially likes to sit with me as I crochet. And is watching with interest as I assemble a “cat playground” to replace the old cat tree which has been scratched to shreds over the past 10 years.
