On to spring

On to smaller fires in the wood stove. On to pulling off the heavy living room curtains on sunny days. On to pruning the apple trees and moving the firewood pile piece by piece to free up yard space.

Mindy Lo is still an indoor kitty. I had an opportunity to adopt the cat of a neighbour who has moved, but I chose to remain a one cat family. I had considered getting a companion for her. Realistically it would not work. I haven’t the energy to take care of 2 animals. We are getting used to each other.

One of Mindy Lo’s favourite moments is the lighting of the stove. She is very determined to sit on my lap. I have learned to shield her with one hand while I add tend the fire with the other. If she puts her claws out I gently remove her.

Oh those claws… they are sharp again. So slowly she is learning to keep them in when she is close to me.

She is itching a lot but I don’t think it is fleas. I ran out of flea med about six weeks ago and getting more was a bit of a chore. Mainly, I dreaded applying it. There is some chemical in it that goes into Mindy Lo’s body through her skin where the med is applied. Then somehow it gets into hert bloodstream and kills anything that bites her.

That is my understanding of how it works. I wouldn’t want to use something like that on myself.

I began giving her a little boiled organic chicken breast every night. I cook it, chop it up and freeze the little chunks which I thaw one by one and shred for part of her dinner.

She loves it and nearly climbs the counter as I am preparing it. I dread if a day comes I have none for her. Will she start biting me for supper? I am of course joking.
