One night I saw a greenish glow along the northern horizon. Was it northern lights? I did not think they could be seen where I now live.
My neighbours said that northern lights did appear at times. So when I heard they might be visible again this month, I was ready. As well as ready for the Perseid meteors.
I saw a couple of fireballs which may or may not have been part of the Perseids. I had seen one a year or two before. They appear and disappear very quickly but they are unforgettable.
The nights I went out to look for the Northen lights were either too cloudy or smoky to see the sky. One night was cloudy but the clouds were light. I walked to the front gate where I had the best view of the northern horizon.
Sheet lightening flashed over me. I went back in. Apparently the lights did appear at some times for some people. But I do not being outside in lightening storms. That night there was a lot of lightening.
This month’s Aurora Borealis had promised to be more exceptionally splendid than usual. I may have missed it, but relations in Alberta kindly supplied photos.

Miss Moppet is not perturbed by thunder. Or by barking dogs next door. If I drop something though, she jumps and goes racing off to hide under the living room table. A former cat whose memory I hold very dear would bolt under the bed at the slightest grumble of thunder. And got agitated by dogs barking close by.
Miss Moppet is now on the window ledge enjoying the view of the backyard. I showed her the cat harness again last night but couldn’t entice her to step into it. So inside she stays for now.
